This program will introduce participants to parkour, also known as l’art du déplacement or freerunning. While some participants may be familiar with the spectacular images from the media, the program will seek to go beyond the high-flying and fantastic images shown in the mainstream media to learn the philosophy, techniques, and ideas at the heart of the sport. Participants will learn the basic techniques of parkour in a safe and positive environment and use them in a variety of situations to overcome various mental and physical challenges. As they become more comfortable and confident in their movement over the course of the week, participants will progress to more difficult movements and challenges that require a combination of strength, speed, balance, coordination, and mental toughness. Participants will train in both outdoor and indoor environments over the course of the camp, and will work on developing different "styles" of movement to accommodate their needs. Parkour is a natural fit for kids that like to explore their environment- whether it's climbing trees, running through obstacles courses, jumping over trash bins, or playing on jungle gyms. Great for any kid that has "done" Parkour through video or computer games like Mirror's Edge or Minecraft, or for regular athletes looking to improve their strength, speed, agility, and balance for other activities. The progression-based structure of the training is designed to accommodate a wide range of abilities- from absolute beginners to experienced practitioners.
