Blacktop is a recreational outdoor summer basketball program for boys and girls entering grades 5-8. The program runs Wednesdays and Saturdays in Sept and October. Run by Jack Palmer, son of Sandy Palmer, PTR Certified Tennis ProfessionalJunior Development Director @ Woburn Racquet Club.  Jack has helped Sandy coach the past few summers.  He has played tennis since the age of six and has played competitively since the age of ten. A Wakefield Memorial High graduate.  He was a member of the Wakefield High School Varsity Tennis team for four years, two of which he was captain.Players will work to improve their skills and mechanics, focus on consistency and accuracy while learning to construct points during match play.  Classes will be focused on footwork and proper technique.  Games and drills will prepare this player for more competitive rallies (1 hour)Recommended racquet size: 23”-25”Tennis Sized Right for Age and Ability. The instructor is Michael Tarascio, a former member of the United States World Championship Team in Men's Foil. Michael is a Level 4 Foil coach certified through the United States Fencing Association and certified through the Positive Coaching Alliance and the American Sports Education Program. He teaches Recreational Classes for Youth, Teens, and Adults. Michael also teaches Advanced Level Technique and Tactics Classes and provides Individual Coaching for the Serious Competitive Fencer. The mission is to provide the youth of Wakefield with an opportunity to experience the positive social and athletic benefits of flag football.  We aim to have fun playing the great game of flag football in a safe environment that will help kids learn about physical activity and the proper skills required to play the game.  Developing character and sportsmanship are also top priorities.  There will be practice time before each game.  This time will enable coaches to work on skills and schemes that will be used in games.  Teams will consist of 8-10 players and, in the interest of keeping teams balanced, no team requests will be honored.  A game shirt and a mouth guard will be provided to each participant.  Mouth guards must be worn by all players at all times. The mission is to provide the youth of Wakefield with an opportunity to experience the positive social and athletic benefits of flag football.  We aim to have fun playing the great game of flag football in a safe environment that will help kids learn about physical activity and the proper skills required to play the game.  Developing character and sportsmanship are also top priorities.  There will be practice time before each game.  This time will enable coaches to work on skills and schemes that will be used in games.  Teams will consist of 8-10 players and, in the interest of keeping teams balanced, no team requests will be honored.  A game shirt and a mouth guard will be provided to each participant.  Mouth guards must be worn by all players at all times. Run by Jack Palmer, son of Sandy Palmer, PTR Certified Tennis ProfessionalJunior Development Director @ Woburn Racquet Club.  Jack has helped Sandy coach the past few summers.  He has played tennis since the age of six and has played competitively since the age of ten. A Wakefield Memorial High graduate.  He was a member of the Wakefield High School Varsity Tennis team for four years, two of which he was captain.Players will work to improve their skills and mechanics, focus on consistency and accuracy while learning to construct points during match play.  Classes will be focused on footwork and proper technique.  Games and drills will prepare this player for more competitive rallies (1 hour)Recommended racquet size: 23”-25”Tennis Sized Right for Age and Ability. The program is designed to teach fencing through activities, games, and exercises that develop coordination, flexibility, and focus. The instructor is Michael Tarascio, a former member of the United States World Championship Team in Men's Foil. Michael is a Level 4 Foil coach certified through the United States Fencing Association and certified through the Positive Coaching Alliance and the American Sports Education Program. He teaches Recreational Classes for Youth, Teens, and Adults. Michael also teaches Advanced Level Technique and Tactics Classes and provides Individual Coaching for the Serious Competitive Fencer.
